There is a charm in seeing an old and refined man trying to pass for a lightheart and funny young man. Such is the quality I love more in the idea of Superior Spider-Man with Doctor Octavius as the mind running the body of Peter Parker. A comical quality is Peter as a kind of ghost narrating his embarrassment along the story, until the middle of the story at least. Without giving spoilers the status quo of the relationship changes and the result is a loss in my opinion. The sensation I left with the final chapters of the second volume is like reading about a completely new character. In any case it is enough interesting to want the third volume. The art by Humberto Ramos is very nice as always.

The art is magnificent and the story is even better. Dan Slott has been building this great story that's rivaling all other Spider-Man writers to date, and closing in on the classic Stan Lee start of ASM. The pair of Humberto Ramos and Ryan Stegman are magicians with the visuals. Their style's are very differnt from one another, but work so well that Spider-Man hasn't had art this good in years. Now, this isn't your granddad's Amazing Spider-Man, this is today's Superior Spider-Man. Things are certainly different from Stan Lee's day, so if you only started reading here with this trade, prepare for a status quo shocker. Catch up on Spider-Man: Dying Wish,Superior Spider-Man Team-Up: Superiority Complex (Spider-Man (Graphic Novels)) and Superior Spider-Man, Vol. 1: My Own Worst Enemy (Spider-Man (Graphic Novels)) to find out how we got to where we are.Enjoy the ride, thank me later.

*May Contain Spoilers for Vol. 1*So A Troubled Mind is a solid follow up to the first 5 issues, with Doc-Spidey setting the record straight on just who Spiderman is now. He’s now a superhero with the capability to think as a super villian, which makes more efficient and more resourceful than before…and thanks to Doc’s obsession with being better than Peter he’s also working on finishing up Peter’s Doctorate. In some ways he is a better superhero, he finishes what he starts and he weighs what is actually important over what Peter might have prioritized. However, because he’s willing to go to lengths (such as nearly beating someone to death) he’s also damaging Peter’s good guy reputation.I loved seeing the Avengers rip into him, but I’m also disappointed they didn’t try harder. Doc-Spidery and Peter are also fighting for control and I loved seeing that whole situation play out, and thanks to the overall spoilers of the Marvel Universe I know I have more coming up in the future comics. However despite knowing the end-game I’m really excited to see how it’ll all play out and just far Doc-Spidey will go to prove that he is in fact Superior.* Spoilers Over *This is definitely a solid issue with only a few moments of text dumping and slow pacing. I can’t wait to continue this one!

I was extremely turned off by this initial concept. I mean...a mind-swap? Really? But over the last few months, as I looked at previews on all the dork sites, I began to really like what I saw. I've always wanted a more brutal & calculating Spider-Man, and here he is. Sure, it's not *really* Peter Parker, but it's extremely cool to see what Spider-Man might have been with a heavier hand. For my money, Octavius really does have what it takes to be a "Superior" Spider-Man. His use of technology and ability to delegate and prioritize is fun to watch and left me thinking "why didn't Peter think of this?" And the evolution of the costume is awesome...the changes are subtle in this volume, but I know where it's going, and it's killer. Clearly influenced by the Alex Ross design sketches for the 2002 movie, but with more sinister lines...Don't want to spoil too much; I love where the story is going, and have pre-ordered all the future volumes so I get 'em as soon as they're released.

Man oh man, Superior Spider-Man is awesome! I don't read a lot of comics these days but Slott's Superior Spider-Man has reminded me why I used to love them so much. This series is so darn fun! Otto Octavius truly IS a Superior Spider-Man. Move aside Peter Parker, your ultimate nemesis is truly a worthy successor. Sure, Otto might be a little (or a lot) heavy handed and slightly fascist in his pursuit of justice but he's also a lot more effective. It's a delight to watch Otto as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, learning how to combat crime, juggle a personal life, establish a legacy, and develop a new set of morals. Of the three volumes I've read so far "A Troubled Mind" is the best, mainly due to Otto's Inception-like confrontation with Peter's ghost. If you're not afraid of change and you're looking for a revolutionary comic, check out Superior Spider-Man!

Excellent story line. I was reluctant at first to purchase the series as I thought it was preposterous even for a comic book. Well I was wrong, and rightfully so. The story gives you a different and intriguing perspective of Dr. Otto Octavious and his view on what Spiderman should be.

I read Vol. 1 and it has me hooked into this series and I like that Marvel went and shook things up with Parker as Spider-Man and let one of his long time enemies not only don the mask but his body which is still crazy to me in a Jekyll & Hyde way. I think that it's crazy that the people involved in Peter's life doesn't see changes in his personality & attitude in the series except one or two people. What's even crazier is that with Doc Ock as Spider-Man he doesn't realize for every 4-5 steps he takes in the right direction as Spidey/Parker he takes another 6-7 steps in the wrong direction.
