The illustrations in the book are fabulous and I especially love the subtle play of color on opposing drawings. It’s educational versus a plot-driven story, and the message is important. Things (and beasts) aren’t always as they seem. It’s nice to get to know our neighbors before passing judgement based on appearance alone.
Gorgeous book. Even as an adult, I found it to be informative! A sweet and delightful way to broach the topic of first impressions, differences, diversity and inclusion with kids. Personally, I think every school library should have this book!
This is a beautifully illustrated guide to thinking differently about the animal world. Older kids will find the unusual facts about some of our fiercer or less friendly creatures interesting and engaging, while the illustrations will work for all ages. There is no plot or story per se but it takes you on a delightful journey through a portion of our natural world. Highly recommend.
